A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Dubrovnik, Croatia by TravelPod blogger Willietanner titled “Hiking, swimming, and walking the walls” Willietanner’s travel blog entry: “Where we left off before, the 22 hour ferry ride from Rijeka to Dubrovnik was just amazing. Far too many photos of little remote islands and lonely lighthouses in the middle of the Adriatic. Some of these photos are in the last entry, but a few more pop up here. Today, Jim’s and my unfortunate propensity to reach the highest point of each city we visit prevailed once again to our sensibility and we found ourselves climbing the ridiculously steep switchbacks that led to the peak of Mt. Srd at 9:30 am with the sun already high in the sky. Our stick-to-it-iveness paid off and we were met with stunning views (save for the monstrous cruise ships) of the Old Town of Dubrovnik and the distant Elaphite Islands. Even more breathtaking, however, were the vistas off to the east of Bosnia. Fort Imperiale, an old Napoleonic fort positioned at the peak of Mt. Srd, was at one point a discotec with funicular access and all but during the 1990s it was again used for its original purposes by Croatian forces when Dubrovnik came under attack. It looked worse for the wear. Disco really is dead. We left the mountain top and directed our attentions to the clear blue waters of Banje Beach- our afternoon diversion. Later, we returned to the Old Town and walked the walls and took about one million pictures …
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Velebit mt, Croatia by TravelPod blogger Keplam titled “Doing hikes on Velebit mountain” Keplam’s travel blog entry: “So after my trip to Istra I went with my cousin for a two days hike on Velebit mountain.Velebit is a mountain in Croatia, which is protected like Nature park, but in it there are two national parks,Paklenica nad Northern Velebit. It’s also UNESCO/MAB biosphere reserve. Area of the park is around 200 000 ha,altitude range 0-1757 m,it’sthe longest mountain of Dinaric range, karst phenomena-caves,pits,landscape diversity alteration of barren limestone rocks with beech, spruce and fir forests.2700 plant species Also intersting to visit is Stirovaèa-virgin forests of beech and fir. We hiked from Veliki Alan to Rossijeva koliba ( Or Ross’s hut) for about 4 hours, after we came there it was around 8 pm so ,dark fell in an hour It’s really wonderful there, quiet with the view to the sea and to the islands. We actually hiked in the NP Sjeverni Velebit and we passed by Strict reserve Hajduèki and Rozanski kukovi. we saw only 4 people in two days,so if you need to relax it’s ideal. You can’t believe that on the islands you are looking at are bunch of noisy tourists, and up there it’s like you are the only person in the world.” Read and see more at: www.travelpod.com Photos from this trip: 1. “Sander in Velebit” 2. “Seaview” 3. “Velebit” 4. “Velebit’s mt” 5. “View” See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia by TravelPod blogger Stevelegassick titled “Turquoise lakes, waterfalls, lotsa hiking” Stevelegassick’s travel blog entry: “Hiked all day with another traveler from New Zealand, all around the lower and upper lakes, which took 6-7 hours in tremendous heat, but it was very scenic and interesting, and quite a workout! Turns out she was some sort of ultimate frisbee athlete, so most of the effort was keeping up with her….. That night we stayed at a local guy’s house (18US$!) and had a very nice room. I had one of my most interesting conversations, as this man had quite a war story: Serb but Croatian, married to a Catholic Croat who died after the war, spent 6 years of the war in the relative safety of Zagreb, came back to a thoroughly vandalized home with 1m of garbage filling every room, his neighbours who are relatives chose to support and fight on the Serbian side against Croatia, but now live back in Croatia next door….etc etc etc…….lots of tension in the air, to this day! The stories went on and on, in pretty good English….and it turned out this guy had lived in France at some point so he would also fill in missing words with French. Real cool to talk to an old dude like this.” Read and see more at: www.travelpod.com Photos from this trip: 1. “Plitvice Lakes” See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com
